Dr. Greg Sancier

Police Psychologist, Forensic Expert


Greg Sancier, Ph.D., serves as one of our forensic experts and instructors in the field of psychology. Dr. Sancier graduated from the University of La Verne where he earned a B.A. in Psychology in 1978. That same year, he began his law enforcement career as a reserve police officer with the Atherton Police Department and in 1980 he was sworn in as a full-time police officer. Greg was then accepted into the Master’s Degree Program at San Jose State University in Clinical Psychology. In 1985 he was hired by the San Jose Police Department while still attending SJSU. In 1989 he earned his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology.

While with the San Jose Police Department, Dr. Sancier has worked primarily in the Patrol and Training Divisions. He has a collateral assignment as a Hostage Negotiator and is now the senior Negotiator on the department with over 25 years experience. In 2002, Dr. Sancier received his Doctorate Ph.D. degree in Clinical Psychology from the Western Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto. He later joined the SJPD’s Crisis Management Unit (CMU), where he has been assigned for nearly 8 years. While in the CMU, Dr. Sancier was the coordinator of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) and he was a member of the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team (CISD).

In 2008, Dr. Sancier was asked to join the State of California Mental Health Board Advisory Committee against Stigma and Discrimination and in 2009 was asked to join the Board of Directors of the Chicago Professional School of Graduate Psychology in Forensics at their Los Angeles Campus. Dr. Sancier has his own private practice where he actively consults on issues related to safety, security, health and wellness.
