A 40.0 hour comprehensive training and supervision course mirroring the CA-POST Field Training Program, based upon the San Jose Police Department’s “Model FTO Program.” This program has also been customized for various law enforcement agencies to include: police officers, deputy sheriffs, adult/juvenile corrections, park rangers and harbor patrol officers. This highly effective team building course addresses the responsibilities and supervision mandates of both Field Training Officers and Field Training Supervisors and is fully supported by a text, PowerPoint, Standardized Objective Guidelines for Performance, and all template forms necessary for any department to begin or maintain a Field Training Program, and train and supervise recruits and Field Training Officers.
Course Topics Covered – the nature of supervision; training, supervision and liability case laws; selection of FTO’s and FTO supervisors; recruit profiles, challenges of training recruit officers, supervision of recruits and FTO’s; Standardized Objective Guidelines for Performance, objective vs. subjective standards of performance; documentation of recruit performance; recruit training, evaluation and remediation; lesson plan development, teaching technology and information presentation. Participants will be actively involved in role playing scenarios, evaluating performance, lesson plan development and a teaching presentation. Course meets or exceeds the minimum state standards for the training of FTO Supervisors and FTO’s as set by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). This course is not CA-POST reimbursable.
