Concepts of Criminal Law: Laws of Arrest, Search & Seizure


An 8.0 hour introductory or 4.0 hour periodic legal update course addressing basic to intermediate concepts relating to 4th Amendment issues surrounding laws of arrest, search and seizure. Concepts and laws cover include, but are not limited to: basics of criminal law, principles and accessories, crimes of specific intent, consensual encounters, reasonable suspicion, detentions, probable cause, arrests, initial investigations on-scene, “Terry Searches,” person searches, vehicle/vessel searches, searches of RV’s, tents, buildings, residences, emergency and exigency and search guidelines. The 8.0 hour course includes components on report writing and role-playing scenarios practical. Course meets or exceeds the minimum state standards for PC §832 as set by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
