A 40.0 hour tactical pistol course and academy for armed officers working in field, marine enforcement and corrections environments. This is a complete and comprehensive introductory to intermediate arming and firearms familiarization course for officers who are preparing to work in an armed assignment. This course involves all aspects of arming, pistol craft, officer safety and the defensive tactical use of a semi-automatic pistol under high-risk circumstances. Participants will receive extensive range instruction and practice and will participate in numerous “shoot-don’t shoot” scenarios using Simunitions® FX weaponry. Course includes a night shoot. Officers will fire between 1,400 – 2,000 rounds of ammunition during this course. This is one of the most effective, popular and dynamics hands-on courses of its type in the CA law enforcement training community. Complete documentation of competency is provided to department. Course meets or exceeds the minimum state standards for the firearms training component in PC §832 as set by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and the California Corrections Standard Authority, Board of Corrections.
Course Topics Covered – weapon nomenclature, disassembly, function, care and maintenance; weapon safety and handling; Four Cardinal Rules of Safety; fundamentals of marksmanship; equipment, ammunition and ballistics; Combat Winning Mindset; combat loading, weapon stoppages and malfunctions; shooting behind cover, shooting in position of disadvantage; CQB; low-light/no light shooting, illumination principles; officer safety tactics; responding to the active shooter, Tueller drills; critical decision making under stress with “Shoot-Don’t Shoot” scenarios.
Once the 40.0 hour the Armed Officer Academy Tactical Pistol Course is completed, a 16.0 hour tactical pistol course designed for intermediate level shooters is available.
* Officers must be in reasonable physical condition without medical restrictions to participate in this course.
